about

Last recording from LIVE/LIE. A song about trust.

lyrics

Black.

It was all he could see. No matter how wide he opened his eyes, he could see nothing, no one. Maybe there wasn't anything at all, anyone at all. Of course he knew this was wrong; she still in the room; he could still hear her breathing, it was labored. He reached out, feeling for her, but instead felt humid air engulf his palms with moisture.

Neither of them could leave. Neither could see the other clear enough to see each other's expressions. Like rats in a cage, they lay, both thinking of a way to navigate out of this most unpleasant maze of pleasantries. She started to say something, but instead trailed off. What luck, good or bad, could have brought them here?

He got up to feel the cool breeze of the window; he ran into something, probably the waist-high dresser across the room; doubled over in pain, the wind knocked out of him he leaned against it to take a beat. She, on the other hand, sat up ever slightly in the bed. She wasn't sure what to make of everything.

It was silent for a long while. He was wondering what she was thinking, and she the same. They wondered whether or not things would be the same. They contemplated the gravity of decisions and actions. They hoped that gravity would be forgiving, for once.

Someone moved; it was obvious because the carpet made that characteristic scratching brushing noise. It seemed to echo even in such a small room. Maybe it was imagination. The door opened, and closed.
More silence. Though now it felt like the comfortable variety,

He strode across the room, fumbled for the switch. Then, light.

She had gone, disappeared, like a dream before the breaking day.

He couldn't believe it, then he did. She had gone.

---

It's been a long, long while
since I've been lost inside my head
and this may be the safest place to be lost with you

I can hardly talk
so I am singing this instead
but this may be the easiest way to get through to you

it doesn't matter what the clock tells for time
it doesn't matter what the calendar marks today
I'm falling faster than the stars from the sky
I need you to listen when I say

Be careful with my heart, I'm begging
be careful with my heart, I'm begging
